Founded in 1902 by Mr.Li
Jingfang, son of Mr.Li Hongzhang, the prime minister
in late Qing Dynasty, Hefei No.1 Senior high School
observes its 100th anniversary in October, 2002. Originally
named "Luzhou School", Hefei No.1 Senior High
had changed ite names several times until in 1952 the
school got ite present name. In 1955, the school was
defined as one of the provincial key schools in Anhui.
Today the school covers an area of 54,144 square metres,
among which 11,143 square metres are used for teaching
buildings, science labs, a library, and a gym with modern
facilities. A sports ground of 400 metres provides enough
exercice space for students. Three gardens with trees
nd flowers offer faculty and students a sound place
for leisure and relaxation.
1980 students and 111 faculty are studying and working
in the school. Among the alumni there are many outstanding
professionals, experts, specialists, academ-icians and
a Nobel Physics Prize winner, Professor Yang Zhenning.
A lot more have become the builders of the country,
contributing their bit to the development of China.
In the past 100 years, the school has witnessed many
ups and downs, yet it has stuck the motto of the school,
fostering tens of thousands of qualified graduates,
and thus the school has gained many praises and awards
and it has been ranked as the top high school in the
city and even in the province by the society. Hefei
No.1 Senior High School has a glorious past, and its
future will be even brighter. |
